Firepunk Billet 68RFE Underdrive Snap Ring Retainer | Prevents Clutch Drum Failure

68RFE underdrive balance piston snap ring failures are something we see far too often during teardowns. When the snap ring walks out or blows off under load, it does not just cause a simple failure. It typically leads to severe damage to the overdrive clutch drum and the underdrive hub, turning otherwise usable hard parts into scrap.

The Firepunk Billet 68RFE Underdrive Snap Ring Retainer was designed to eliminate this weak point. Machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum, this retainer is built taller than the factory piece to increase spring preload and keep consistent pressure on the snap ring under high load and elevated RPM.

The added height and rigidity help prevent expansion and snap ring failure, while integrated anti-rotation features keep the retainer locked in position so it cannot move or shift during operation. The result is a more stable underdrive assembly and significantly reduced risk of catastrophic internal damage.

This retainer is designed to be used with the factory snap ring.
